Belmont talent shines in holiday music special

With Christmas only weeks away, Belmont collaborated with Gray Media, WSMV-TV and Tupelo Honey for “Songs for the Holidays,” a special edition of the acclaimed music series “The Song.” The one-hour holiday spectacular features performances by Grammy winners and platinum recording artists Rob Thomas, Darius Rucker, Amy Grant, Brian McKnight, Jason Mraz, Jewel, Colbie Caillat, Rascal Flatts’ Gary LaVox, All-4-One and more.

The special, hosted by LaVox and Krista Marie, also showcases Belmont’s rising talent alongside established industry veterans.

Emmy Moyen, a junior songwriting student from Starkville, Mississippi, offers her country music talent to the production. Though early in her music career, Moyen has already opened for notable acts like The Oak Ridge Boys and RaeLynn and was featured in Belmont’s Best of the Best Showcase.

Alumnus Lucas Rennie (audio engineering technology ’22) is featured on the pedal steel guitar in the show. Since graduation, Rennie has toured globally alongside Lauren Watkins as an opener for the Morgan Wallen “One Night At A Time” world tour and performed with American Idol Season 21 winner Iam Tongi.

“Songs for the Holidays” was a collaborative effort across several Belmont departments and features students studying songwriting, audio engineering and music business. Faculty from audio engineering, journalism and film departments provided oversight alongside members of Story Studio & Curb College of Entertainment and Music Business.

The special will air nationwide throughout December. To view locally in Nashville, tune into WSMV-TV Dec. 15 at 11 a.m. Check your local listings for dates, times and out-of-market stations.
