Belmont University Announces New Director of Study Abroad and Belmont USA

Experienced global education leader to enhance Belmont's extensive international programs

Marissa ChandlerBelmont University is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Marissa Chandler as the new Director of Study Abroad and Belmont USA, effective July 1, 2024.  

Chandler brings extensive experience in international education to this role, having served Austin Peay State University for a total of 27 years. Most recently, she held the position of Director of Global Engagement for 11 years, where she provided leadership for International Student Services, the English Language Institute and Study Abroad programs. Prior to overseeing study abroad, Chandler served as the Director of Trio Student Support Services, a federally funded program supporting low-income, first-generation and disabled college students at APSU.

"Dr. Chandler has a uniquely global story and perspective that will serve Belmont and our students exceptionally well," said Dr. Jim McIntyre, dean of the College of Education and assistant provost for academic excellence. "She studied abroad herself as an undergraduate at Harlaxton College in England and has now visited six continents. We are thrilled to have  Marissa bring expertise and passion for international education to Belmont University as we continue to enhance our study abroad offerings."

Born in Puerto Rico to an international family, Chandler holds an Ed.D. in Educational Leadership from Trevecca Nazarene University, an Ed.S. from Austin Peay State University, a M.A. in Higher Education from Western Kentucky University and a B.A. in International Studies from the University of Evansville.

"Belmont's commitment to providing transformative global experiences aligns perfectly with my own personal and professional mission. I look forward to working with faculty, staff and students to build upon the strong foundation of the study abroad and Belmont USA programs."

Belmont University offers a diverse array of global learning opportunities: 61 undergraduate faculty-led programs and eight semester-long program partners, with opportunities ranging from semester-long programs in Spain and South Korea to short-term experiences in Greece and Ghana, as well as domestic programs like Belmont USA offerings in New York City and a newly launched program in Atlanta or the Bonnaroo festival experience in Tennessee. Belmont is committed to providing students with opportunities to engage in global learning through study abroad, international internships, service learning and innovative domestic programs.
