Flexible, one-year program offers tracks in content creation, music business
Belmont University's Mike Curb College of Entertainment & Music Business introduces a new Master of Arts in media & entertainment industries program launching this fall. Now accepting applications, this innovative one-year hybrid program equips professionals with advanced skills and industry connections to excel in the dynamic media and entertainment landscape.
The program offers two specialized concentrations: content creation and music business. Students will benefit from a flexible, primarily online format with two on-campus, weekend residencies in Nashville, allowing students to earn their master's degree while maintaining their current commitments.
“This program is intentionally designed for both working professionals looking to sharpen their skills and individuals seeking to break into the media and entertainment industries.” said Dr. Stephen Rush, assistant professor and chair of Media & Entertainment Industries. “Whether someone is upskilling within their current role or coming from a field like English or communications, we provide the industry exposure, creative tools and real-world experiences they need to thrive in media and entertainment. By combining flexibility with access to Nashville’s creative network, this program equips students to step confidently into the industry.”
The 30-credit program combines core coursework in media theory, digital branding, marketing, leadership and media law with specialized concentration courses. The content creation track focuses on data visualization, podcasting and video production, while the music business track covers artist management, music licensing, contracts and strategic management.
“Launching the M.A. in media and entertainment industries reinforces Belmont’s established reputation as the premier destination for entertainment education," said Brittany Schaffer, dean of the Mike Curb College of Entertainment & Music Business. “This program responds to a growing need for professionals who can think creatively and strategically across the media landscape. By combining Nashville’s status as a global entertainment hub with our strong industry connections, we’re opening doors for the next generation of creative leaders.”
Students on either track will benefit from Nashville's unparalleled entertainment industry connections. The content creation track provides access to cutting-edge equipment and software, including the Adobe Suite and Avid Media Composer, while the music business track offers specialized coursework in music industry operations and strategy. All students will learn from award-winning faculty with extensive industry experience.
The program is now accepting applications, with GRE requirements waived for the first two years. Prospective students typically hold undergraduate degrees in fields such as media, communications, music, business, creative arts, entertainment or audio and recording arts.
