Ron Loeppke, MD, MPH, FACOEM, FACPM is currently Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Health Systems Science at the Frist College of Medicine at Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee. He is also Vice Chairman Emeritus of U.S. Preventive Medicine (USPM). USPM provides primary, secondary, and tertiary prevention and Population Health Management (wellness, health coaching and disease management) services for all size employers, health plans and government entities.
Dr. Loeppke has over 35 years of clinical and physician executive experience in the Preventive Medicine,
Medical Management, Disease Management, Population Health Management and Corporate Health arenas. He has authored more than 50 articles and book chapters relating to health services research in preventive medicine, occupational health, workplace wellness, population health and the business value of health.
Dr. Loeppke has provided testimony and numerous presentations to Presidential Task Forces at the White House and Congressional committees on Capitol Hill—and was nominated by the American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine (ACOEM) as a candidate for U.S. Surgeon General. He is also currently an advisor to the World Health Organization (WHO) Health and the World of Work initiative. He was also Chairman of the CDC Diabetes at Work group as part of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) National Diabetes Education Program (NDEP).
Dr. Loeppke provided the keynote presentation for the first Workplace Wellness conference in Tokyo, Japan sponsored by the Tokyo Stock Exchange and the Japan Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry. He has also provided several keynote presentations for leading U.S. based healthcare and business conferences including the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Workplace Wellness and CDC annual conferences in Washington D.C.
He is Board Certified in General Preventive Medicine and Public Health, Fellowship trained in Occupational Medicine and is a Fellow of both the American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine (ACOEM) and the American College of Preventive Medicine, (ACPM). Dr. Loeppke is past President of ACOEM, was a member of the Board of Directors of ACOEM for eight years. He is also on the Population Health Management Journal Editorial Board and was Co-Founder and continues to be the Co-Chair of the International Occupational Medical Society Collaborative (IOMSC)--a global initiative involving over 40 countries.
Dr. Loeppke was the Founder, CEO and President of the Health and Productivity Corporation of America (HPCA), headquartered in Brentwood, Tennessee. HPCA provided health and productivity enhancement services to large employers (e.g., DIRECTV and Dow Chemical) for their employees, dependents, and retirees. In 2003, HPCA was acquired by CorSolutions where Dr. Loeppke became the EVP and Chief Strategic Officer. CorSolutions was then acquired by Matria (a publicly traded healthcare company) in 2006, whereupon he continued his role as EVP and Chief Strategic Officer. Alere (also a publicly traded healthcare company) then acquired Matria in 2008, where Dr. Loeppke became the EVP of Health Strategy.
Dr. Loeppke was also previously the Chief Medical Officer of PhyCor, Inc., a publicly traded healthcare company with over 25,000 affiliated physicians and $1.3 billion in annual revenue. At PhyCor he was the C-suite medical executive that led the development and implementation of the capitation managed care initiatives, medical management of the MLR, utilization management, disease management, health management and related e-health initiatives for 42 multi-specialty clinics, 370 service sites, 30 IPA markets in the North American Medical Management (NAMM) subsidiary involving over 1.2 million capitated lives and 24,000 physicians throughout the United States and also through CareWise, Inc., which provided healthcare decision support services to over 3.6 million consumers. Dr. Loeppke was the C-Suite Executive responsible for the design, identification, and implementation of the medical management support systems, including information systems, clinical guidelines, outcomes management and clinical quality improvement initiatives.
Dr. Loeppke also founded and was President of Corporate Health and Medical Programs, Inc. (CHAMPS), which contracted with over 2000 employers (including Kodak, Hewlett Packard, Teledyne Waterpik, Anheuser Busch, ConAgra) for onsite occupational health and preventive medicine clinical services as well as consulting Medical Director services. He was also the Chairman of the Board at the Greeley Medical Clinic, a large multispecialty physician group practice in Colorado, where he founded and was Chairman of the Department of Occupational Health and Preventive Medicine and provided clinical and consultative services for employees of regional employers.
Dr. Loeppke went to college at Montana State University in Bozeman, Montana; to Medical School at University of Kansas School of Medicine in Kansas City, Kansas; and did his clinical Internship, MPH, Preventive Medicine Residency and Occupational Medicine Fellowship at the University of Washington in Seattle, Washington.
