Dr. Peter McLoughlin is a Reader of Politics and Fellow of the Senator George J. Mitchell Institute for Global Peace, Security and Justice at Queen’s University Belfast. He specializes in the history and politics of the Northern Ireland problem. He was a Fulbright Scholar at Boston College in 2019, where he researched the role of Irish America and the U.S. government in both the Northern Ireland conflict and peace process. His work also addresses other international dimensions of the Northern Ireland problem, such as the EU influence. He has published widely, with articles appearing in journals such as Diplomatic History, Nationalism and Ethnic Politics, Contemporary European History, and Twentieth Century British History. He is also author of a book on the Northern Ireland leader and Nobel Peace Prize winner, John Hume – John Hume and the Revision of Irish Nationalism (MUP: 2010). He is a former editor of the Irish Political Studies journal.
