Bruce Bennett

Biography

Having been an adjunct faculty member in the early 1990s, Bruce Bennett returned to the School of Music as a full-time Instructor of Music in Fall 2004. Mr. Bennett teaches commercial applied vocal studies and related performance courses. Professor Bennett has also served on the faculty at St. Thomas Aquinas College in New York and Passaic County Community College, Paterson, NJ. He earned a Master of Music degree in jazz from The New England Conservatory of Music and a Bachelor of Arts degree in music and theatre from Hardin-Simmons University.

Mr. Bennett has an extensive performance career as a vocalist. He has appeared throughout New York's music scene including nightclubs in the world-famous Greenwich Village, the nationally recognized Turning Point, and the historic Catskill resorts and nightspots. Other performances: in New Orleans' renowned French Quarter, Nashville's legendary Opry House, and throughout Boston's eclectic music scene including soloist in the first complete performance of Apartment House 1776 with American composer John Cage. He has also performed in numerous regional and stock theatre productions.

Mr. Bennett is the author of FROM ONE SINGER TO ANOTHER: How to Sing Better, Be More Creative and Have Some Fun While You’re Doing It, published in 2017 on Amazon.com.  He was also a notes writer for Deutsche Grammophon and London Records, and has been published in the Jazz Educators Journal.

Mr. Bennett is a voting member of the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences and a member of Pi Kappa Lambda the National Music Honor Society.
