Biography
Carshonda Harris Martin serves as the Assistant Provost of Student Success and Flourishing at Belmont University, a position she began in January 2022. The Assistant Provost of Student Success and Flourishing is a senior leadership position that is crucial in providing strategic vision, direction, and oversight for initiatives aimed at promoting the holistic development and success of students. This role is integral to advancing Belmont University's commitment to equitable access to education, supporting student retention, and fostering student success. It encompasses both academic and non-academic aspects of the college experience, focusing on creating an environment where students can thrive and reach their full potential. Through her leadership, Ms. Martin plays a pivotal role in ensuring that students receive the necessary support and resources to succeed beyond the classroom.
The Division of Student Success and Flourishing under Ms. Martin's leadership offers comprehensive services that include academic coaching, learning support, and career planning. This division is dedicated to creating a nurturing environment that empowers students to take charge of their personal and academic growth. Key objectives include:

- Fostering a learning environment rich in community engagement and guidance.

Ms. Martin also manages the Bruins Emergency Fund and develops programs for first-generation and transfer students. Her work involves coordinating advising and outreach efforts to address students' diverse enrollment needs.
Her educational background is extensive. She began with an Associate Degree from Walters State Community College and later earned a Bachelor’s in Exercise Science from East Tennessee State University (ETSU) in 2007. Furthering her education, she completed a Master of Professional Studies in Strategic Leadership in 2012. Currently, she is pursuing an Ed.D. in Leadership and Learning at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, with her graduation anticipated in May 2025.
Prior to her role at Belmont, Ms. Martin had a significant tenure at ETSU from 2009 to 2022. During this period, she held various positions across Enrollment Services, Student Affairs, Academic Affairs, and Equity and Diversity. Her responsibilities included leadership in the Mary V. Jordan Multicultural Center, where she oversaw Programming and Outreach, Student Access and Success Programs, International Student Support, and Diversity/Inclusion Programs. She was instrumental in strategic planning, budget management, operational oversight, and program evaluation, all aimed at fostering an inclusive campus climate.
Beyond her institutional roles, Ms. Martin has been actively involved in community service and professional development. She has served on boards such as the YWCA of Tennessee and Virginia, participated in leadership programs like the Johnson City Chamber Leadership Program, and engaged with numerous community and professional organizations. Her accolades include membership in honor societies like Kappa Delta Pi and Phi Kappa Phi, and she has been recognized with awards such as Health Heroes Nominee, Advisor of the Year, and inclusion in the Annual 30 under 40 Sawubona Class. Her current service includes being an intern on the Board of Directors for the Boys and Girls Club of the Greater Nashville community and participating in the NASPA 2025 AVP Symposium Planning Committee.
