Learning about science and doing science, while complementary, require totally different skill sets. At Belmont, undergraduates in the College of Sciences & Mathematics are immersed in both. All CSM classes and labs are taught by faculty, not grad assistants, and more than 90 percent of our professors hold terminal degrees in their field. More importantly, they are dedicated to providing you with rich, rewarding and rigorous educational experiences in a small-class setting. They see teaching as a high calling and seek to aid and mentor students along their educational and professional paths.
At Belmont, you’ll be given countless opportunities to stretch your minds and hone the skills that will set you apart. Independent and faculty-mentored research, at the undergraduate level, is a hallmark of our programs. These experiences—along with robust internship and study abroad opportunities—are invaluable for exploring future paths. Plus, degrees in the sciences and mathematics yield excellent career prospects, preparing you for highly marketable fields that continue to surge. Adding to the unique attraction of studying the sciences or math at Belmont is our location in Nashville, a growing market for healthcare and STEM-related careers (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) that ranks in the Top 20 on the STEM Job Growth Index. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, college-educated STEM professionals can expect to earn between 29-39 percent more than non-STEM employees with equivalent degrees.
