Former NFL Player, Amazon Executive Among Industry Veterans Mapping Digital Success
This past Wednesday, Curb College hosted a panel of industry leaders in the sports influencer space to share strategies for success and lessons from their journeys. Students had the opportunity to learn from Jessica McAlister, founder of Catalyst 9 Golf Talent Agency; Erin Ryder, lead creative producer for Amazon Sports and co-founder of Pax Pictures production company; and Miles Burris, actor, influencer and former NFL player.

The panelists emphasized a critical shift in the digital landscape: the dominance of niche media. Consumers are increasingly drawn to individualized content that caters to their personal interests. This trend presents an opportunity for content creators to leverage their distinct perspectives to cultivate dedicated followings
“Social media has become such an over saturated space. So how are you differentiating yourself?” asked McAlister. “What is it you're passionate about? What do you want to talk about?”
Burris described his experimental approach to content creation. He explained that authenticity in the digital space means embracing uncertainty, choosing to explore what his audience is interested in by posting about multiple aspects of his personality and career.
“I'll kind of just throw everything out there, from goofy stuff to football to film to just everything that encompasses me,” said Burris. “Some stuff just completely flops. But that's the way that I've learned to see what sticks with the audience.”
When asked about pursuing brand partnerships, McAlister emphasized the importance of strategic outreach. She stressed the necessity of developing a personal brand that authentically aligns with potential partners.

“It’s not just about ‘can you give me money?’ It’s more about what finding about you resonates with their brand,” said McAlister. “It is a business deal at the end of the day, but at the same time, what's going to keep you standing apart is wanting to develop a real relationship with the brand and the people at the brand.”
Mentorship was mentioned repeatedly as a cornerstone of success. “Find an awesome group of people that help push you,” said Ryder. This sentiment resonated across the panel, highlighting how professional relationships can fuel both motivation and growth.
As the panel closed, the panelists emphasized the importance of consistency and authenticity as foundational elements of influencer success. Whether building a personal brand, reaching out to companies, or navigating career shifts, the key takeaway was clear: success comes from staying true to yourself while maintaining a growth mindset.
“Find that superpower,” said Burris. “You all have something to contribute.”
