Opportunities for Student Leaders at UM
At University Ministries, we think leadership is something everyone can take part in, and it can play a key component in one's spiritual formation. We have a variety of leadership opportunities for students to consider that could involve leading worship, co-leading a mission trip, investing in first-year students, and more.

- Chapel Worship Leader
- Spiritual Life Assistant (SLA)
- COMMUNITY – SLAs participate in the life of their assigned residence hall by building relationships with residents, partnering with Residence Life staff, and attending community events and gatherings.
- FAITH FORMATION – SLAs serve as mentors while also connecting students to things like Chapel, Belmont on Mission, Faith Development Organizations (FDOs), and other faith formation opportunities.
- Missional Engagement Council (MEC)
- $500-$1500 trip subsidy depending on role
- Growing knowledge of sustainable mission ideology and practices
- Tangible experience in all aspects of sending short term mission trips

Chapel Worship Leaders lead the Belmont community in song during our weekly chapel services. Worship leaders serve on a rotating basis and are responsible for choosing songs, recruiting and leading a band, and leading during chapel services. This is a great opportunity to use your gifts and talents, develop as a leader, and guide our community in giving praise and glory to God.
The Spiritual Life Assistant (SLA) program offers a unique opportunity for students to work in a leadership role with both University Ministries and Residence Life. SLAs help fellow students find community within their residence halls and explore faith formation opportunities available to them during their time at Belmont.
This position requires involvement in the following areas:
The Missional Engagement Council (MEC) is a committed group of student leaders within Belmont on Mission who assist in planning and leading short-term mission trips that help students find their purpose in God’s story. This unique year-long opportunity allows students to engage their educational background and interests with student-centered, service-oriented experience. It will involve a variety of work involving logistics, planning, education, marketing, and more. All majors, interests, and levels of experience are welcome. Students who are passionate about using their skills to serve and transform the student community and the greater community through Belmont on Mission are encouraged to apply!
Benefits of leading on the MEC:
Chair Positions: Will work an average of 3-4 hours a week and will receive a $1500 subsidy toward a mission trip. They will work alongside and guide student coordinators.
Coordinator Positions: Will work an average of 1-2 hours a week up until their trip and will receive a $500 subsidy toward a mission trip. Coordinator positions will work under and assist Chair positions in their roles.
Service Year is an intentional Christian community right here on campus! Students spend regular time together in fellowship, conversation, and prayer. Students also serve in an internship at a Christian non-profit here in Nashville. Students live together in a Belmont owned house on 15th Avenue or the Horrell Community (The Horrell Community is an apartment on the ground floor of Horrell, which is separate from all other apartments).
