About Michael
Hi! My name is Michael Waters and I’m a native of Florence, SC. I began my career in the field of college admission at Furman University, my alma mater. I later earned a master’s degree in counseling from Georgia State University and then served for eleven years as the Director of College Counseling at Brentwood Academy in suburban Nashville. Heeding the call to return to a university setting, I joined the admission staff here at Belmont in 2005.
In my free time, I enjoy reading (especially history) and raising a vegetable garden. I feel fortunate to work in a Christian community that not only values learning and service, but also challenges students to identify and follow God’s purpose for their lives.I look forward to the opportunity of serving you as you enter this next phase in your life.

About Martha
I am the Ministry Program Advisor and an advisor for the Liberal Studies Program. I also teach the Liberal Studies Cooperative Experience course as well as classes in the School of Religion. I completed my undergraduate work at Baylor University, and I earned an MDiv/RE and Ph.D. from Southern Seminary.
After seminary, I served as the Minister of Education at Crievewood Baptist Church in Nashville, Tennessee for sixteen years. While I was at Crievewood, I began teaching as an adjunct in the School of Religion at Belmont University. In the summer of 2005, I came to Belmont’s University College as the Ministry Program Advisor and a Liberal Studies advisor.
In both of these capacities, I have been privileged to meet and get to know students from various academic and religious experiences. The best part of my job is getting to know the students and their families, as well as seeing the student’s excitement regarding how God has gifted them for ministry. It is also a joy to see students realize their dream of finishing their degree.
My life apart from Belmont includes spending time with my husband Ray and our son, Kyle. I also volunteer at Crievewood Baptist Church as the Senior Adult Division director.
