Find Out More:

Belmont University seeks to attract and retain highly qualified staff and faculty who will share our values and will support our mission and vision.  To reward its staff and faculty, Belmont uses compensation systems that are fair and equitable and comply with all local, state and federal regulations.

Staff Compensation

Staff compensation system programs are developed and administered using the following five philosophies:

  1. Consistency - All positions are evaluated using the same methodology and factors. Pay practices are common for all staff positions in the compensation structure.
  2. Competitiveness - Base compensation for fully competent employees is intended to be competitive with the median of the labor market from which they are recruited.
  3. Development - Key goal of pay delivery practices is to motivate staff development and increase effectiveness.
  4. Performance - Belmont University performance influences annual compensation programs. Individual employee performance, specifically achievement of annual objectives, affects annual compensation treatment.
  5. Openness - Information concerning an employee’s personal compensation is for their private use.
Faculty Compensation

The base faculty salary incorporates the concept of differentiated pay based on rank, experience, academic preparation, and meritorious service to the university as determined by faculty evaluations, and market supply and demand in the teaching field. Differences in salary are made in an orderly systematic manner with careful regard to the over-all impact on the total Belmont faculty. Additional information about faculty compensation policies can be found within the faculty handbook.

Below are links to the Employee and Faculty Handbooks.  For more information about a specific policy, please contact the Office of Human Resources or the Provost Office.

Employee Handbook – The Employee Handbook serves as a guide for Belmont University faculty and staff about their work environment, job responsibilities, benefits, and policies to help them in their daily work.  Most of the information supplied in this handbook is common to faculty and staff, with some policies applying only to staff employees.  Faculty should consult the Faculty Handbook for information specific to their academic role.

Faculty Handbook – Belmont University is committed to providing its faculty with clear policies and procedures regarding the University’s expectations and opportunities for faculty. The Belmont University Faculty Handbook is designed to assist faculty in understanding those policies and procedures specific to their academic issues, such as teaching, promotion, and shared governance.

Belmont University values professional development for all of its faculty and staff. All new staff employees attend a formal half-day orientation program in addition to training designed by their respective departments. Other new staff workshops focus on the core competencies expected of all staff: communication, critical thinking, customer orientation, collaboration and diversity. Numerous other online and classroom workshops are offered covering safety, legal wellness for supervisors, management and leadership, and personal and career development topics.

All new faculty employees attend a 3-day orientation including new hire and benefits information, pedagogical best practices, community service, and other faculty and teaching needs. They are each assigned a seasoned faculty member as a mentor for their first year. The Teaching Center offers monthly workshops and lunch discussions for faculty development and teaching improvement. Additional online and classroom courses are offered by Human Resources for personal and professional development.

Customized departmental workshops are designed and facilitated upon request.
