Dr. Levi Watkins, Jr. Institute Pathway
Belmont University has partnered with Tennessee State University to create accelerated opportunities for gifted students pursuing careers in medicine. This collaboration between the Thomas F. Frist, Jr. College of Medicine and TSU’s College of Life and Physical Sciences establishes the Dr. Levi Watkins, Jr. Medical Accelerated Pathway Program, named for the distinguished TSU alumnus and pioneering cardiac surgeon who performed the first human implantation of an automatic defibrillator. The seven-year program addresses the critical national physician shortage while increasing opportunities for underrepresented students in medicine.

Lipscomb University's Biomolecular Science Pathway
Designed to attract a diverse applicant pool, including career changers and those aiming to enhance their academic credentials, the partnership offers several key benefits to students and the broader community. Students who complete Lipscomb's one-year BMS master's program and meet specific academic benchmarks, including a 3.5 GPA and a minimum MCAT score of 505, will be guaranteed an interview for admission to Belmont's College of Medicine. This opportunity is particularly valuable given the highly competitive nature of medical school admissions.
