Federal Financial Aid

Pell grants are not available to medical students.  However, medical students may apply for Federal Direct Loans to help them meet their educational expenses.  These include Direct Unsubsidized and Direct PLUS (Grad PLUS) Loans.  The maximum Direct Unsubsidized Loan for medical students is $40,500 annually, although this is for a 9-month budget period and can be prorated higher for enrollment periods longer than 9 months.  The remaining cost of attendance (COA) may be borrowed with Direct PLUS.

Belmont's School Code is 003479.

Steps to Take

  1. Fill out the FAFSAas soon as possible. Submitting your FAFSA in a timely manner allows you to apply for the maximum Direct Unsubsidized Loan you have qualified for.
  2. Be sure that you also apply forDirect PLUS Loan if you will need to borrow more than the maximum Direct Unsubsidized Loan amount.
  3. Completing your Direct Plus Loan Applicationis a separate stepin addition to completing your FAFSA.
