Course bolsters strong biology catalog within CSM
To keep education excellence at the forefront of its mission, the College of Sciences and Mathematics is constantly evolving its coursework to cater to industry trends. One of its newest additions features a herpetology class taught by first-year Belmont Assistant Professor of Biology Dr. Chase Kinsey.
Herpetology, the study of amphibians and reptiles, acts to bolster CSM’s already-strong catalog of biology courses for students to experience. The class will supplement preexisting biology offerings focused on molecular and environmental sciences.
“Throughout my academic career, I’ve had the opportunity to work with numerous herpetofauna across the southeast including salamanders, frogs, lizards and alligators,” said Kinsey. “My own background in wildlife ecology and biomechanics provides an opportunity to offer unique courses to the department.”
Students will spend time outside the classroom at Percy Warner Park and Shelby Bottoms Greenway where they will catch and identify local herpetofauna and collect data for their own projects.
Additionally, students will also take a behind-the-scenes tour of the Nashville Zoo’s exhibit later in the semester.
