Belmont 101: Frequently Asked Questions

Belmont’s Orientation program is truly like no other. Yes, it prepares and equips you to make a successful transition to Belmont by helping you register for courses. But it’s also a fun-filled welcome to help you connect as a new Bruin to the campus community. Fall students who have paid their enrollment deposit will receive an invitation via email with more specific information in late January, and spring students will receive a similar email in November. For more information, visit belmont.edu/towering-traditions.

You will register for classes during your summer Towering Traditions Orientation session. Students enrolling in the spring will register for classes during Orientation in January. Summer registration is available before the summer session begins in June.

Once your non-refundable enrollment deposit is received, you will automatically receive an email explaining how to apply for housing through your MyBelmont account. Assignments are made based on the date the housing application is received and the room style preferences indicated on the form. All assignments are contingent on space availability. Special attention is given to preferences and requests; however, no assignment is based solely on the resident’s request and thus is not guaranteed. All roommate requests must be mutual and received by the Residence Life office by May 1 (December 1 for spring). You may submit these through the online housing application. Assignments are usually completed during the first week of June for the fall semester and early December for spring semester enrollees. Your housing and roommate assignment will be posted on your MyBelmont account under the My Housing icon.

Note: Belmont anticipates the size of the incoming first-year class to exceed the capacity for first-year student housing. We encourage you to submit your non-refundable enrollment deposit as soon as possible once you have finalized your decision for the Fall.

Accepted transfer applicants will receive a Preliminary Transcript Report (PTR) with their acceptance letter which will provide an initial estimate as to how their credits will fit into Belmont’s Bell Core (General Education Core). Once an applicant has submitted the non-refundable enrollment deposit, their credits from an official college or testing service transcript are then entered into DegreeWorks prior to Orientation which acts as their official degree “roadmap.” DegreeWorks can be viewed once the deposit has been paid and a MyBelmont account established. Credits not listed on the PTR or in DegreeWorks will be reviewed by the student’s academic advisor at Orientation for possible Belmont equivalents.

Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate and Dual Enrollment credit hours are awarded automatically through the Registrar’s Office upon completion of the enrollment confirmation and receipt of an official grade report sent directly from the College Board, official transcript from the IBO or institution. Information on what AP/IB scores and transfer courses are eligible for credit can be found in the current University Catalog at catalog.belmont.edu.
